As an artist and photographer, I've always been interested in liminal spaces. The point of crossing over from one state to another is one that comes up time and again in our lives, both metaphorically (during spring and autumn, the liminal seasons; in pregnancy, which is a liminal time that precipitates a great change; when a couple is engaged to be married, or when a young adult is waiting for the last summer before university to end) and literally, which is the aspect on which most of my work focuses. Doors are the perfect literal representation of liminality - they represent a threshold, a crossing-place.
